# Free GEO audit tool

This free GEO audit scans one page URL with 43 checks and returns a score from 0 to 100, five dimension scores and your top three issues. A GEO audit tests whether AI answer engines can fetch, read and use a page. We fetch the page and a few site files. We do not store your page text. The score measures readiness, not actual AI mentions.

## What does a GEO audit check?

GEO means generative engine optimization: preparing a site so that generative AI engines, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, can find a page and use it in an answer. The audit follows the path an AI engine takes, from fetching the page to using it.

| Dimension | Weight | Checks | Question it answers |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AI crawler access | 30% | 9 | Can AI crawlers fetch the page? |
| Content structure | 25% | 7 | Can they read and split the page into passages? |
| Structured data | 15% | 4 | Does the page state who and what it is in machine form? |
| Agent readiness | 15% | 11 | Can AI agents find files and tools on the site? |
| Technical delivery | 15% | 7 | Is the page served correctly and fast enough? |

[How SeenLens works](https://seenlens.com/how-it-works) lists every check.

## Which parts of the page does the audit look at first?

- **Access (30%).** The page loads for a plain HTTP client, no bot wall blocks it, the main content is in the raw HTML, robots.txt is reachable and does not block AI search crawlers, no `noindex` or `nosnippet` directive blocks quotes, and AI user agents get the same response as a browser.
- **Content (25%).** The page has a title, a meta description, one H1, a heading order without gaps, enough text, an opening sentence that states the point and a visible date.
- **Structured data (15%).** JSON-LD is present and parses, entity markup such as Organization or WebSite exists, and Open Graph tags are set.
- **Agent readiness (15%).** The site offers llms.txt, a Markdown version of the page, an ai-catalog.json file, well-known discovery files and WebMCP tools.
- **Technical delivery (15%).** The page uses HTTPS, returns status 200, needs no rendering, returns 404 for unknown URLs, sets a canonical URL and passes Core Web Vitals.

## What does research say matters for AI answers?

The score weights access highest, because an engine cannot use a page it cannot fetch. These studies fit that order. All are correlational:

- In an Ahrefs study of about 1.4 million ChatGPT prompts (April 2026), the search channel had an 88.46% citation rate. ChatGPT cited about half of the URLs it retrieved.
- In an Ahrefs study of 863,000 keyword results (March 2026), 37.9% of the URLs cited by Google AI Overviews ranked in the top 10.
- Google says a page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no other technical requirements.
- An Ahrefs study of 1,885 pages (May 2026) found no significant citation gain from adding schema markup. Google says structured data is not required for generative AI search.

## What can a GEO audit not tell me?

The audit does not ask ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity anything. It cannot say whether an engine mentions your brand. A high score means the page is easy to fetch and read. It does not promise a citation or a ranking. To measure real visibility, read [how to check AI visibility](https://seenlens.com/guides/how-to-check-ai-visibility) and the [Bing AI Performance report](https://seenlens.com/guides/bing-ai-performance-report). Ahrefs found that 50 to 60% of citations disappear by the next answer, so a single check proves little.

## How do I fix the issues the audit finds?

- [robots.txt blocks AI crawlers](https://seenlens.com/fixes/robots-txt-blocks-ai-crawlers)
- [AI crawlers blocked by a WAF](https://seenlens.com/fixes/ai-crawlers-blocked-by-waf)

- [The first paragraph does not answer the question](https://seenlens.com/fixes/first-paragraph-does-not-answer)
- [Add JSON-LD](https://seenlens.com/fixes/add-json-ld)

Every check links to a fix page. The paid [AI Visibility Report](https://seenlens.com/pricing) lists all issues with cause, fix and evidence for USD 49 once per URL. It does not query ChatGPT or track citations. The [GEO audit checklist](https://seenlens.com/guides/geo-audit-checklist) shows the same steps for a manual audit.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this GEO audit free?

Yes. The scan is free and needs no account. It returns the score, five dimension scores and the top three issues. The full list of issues is in the paid report.

### What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

Google says its AI features use core ranking and quality systems, so SEO practice still applies. GEO adds checks for AI crawlers and AI agents. See [GEO vs SEO vs AEO](https://seenlens.com/guides/geo-vs-aeo-vs-seo).

### Does the GEO audit tell me if ChatGPT mentions my site?

No. It scores readiness from 43 checks. It does not query any AI engine.

## Method and sources

SeenLensBot runs 38 deterministic checks on what it receives and applies fixed weights. The rules are versioned, and each report records the version. Last reviewed 2026-11-06. Read the [method](https://seenlens.com/how-it-works) and the [SeenLensBot page](https://seenlens.com/bot).
